While AFEET’s major mission is to combat the exploitation of children in tourism, the association also offers women business owners in the tourism industry networking and training opportunities. Tourism is an important industry in Peru: according to the World Economic Forum, in 2013 tourism contributed 3.4 percent directly to GDP and directly employed 2.3 percent of the working population. There are two AFEET chapters, in Arequipa and Cusco. AFEET members participate in and present at events focused on women’s entrepreneurship. Members are linked to similar associations through the International Federation of Associations of Tourism Operators (FIASEET), which focuses on Latin America.
