National Institute for Women (INMUJERES)

Established in 2001, IMMUJERES is a federal institution that strives for a culture of equality in Mexico. INMUJERES works to end violence and discrimination against women, allow women to fully exercise their rights, ensure gender equality throughout all government agencies, and provide women with equal opportunities for participation in politics and the economy. INMUJERES promotes equal participation through its policies and programs. INMUJERES is responsible for implementing the national policy on gender equality. This policy is intended to change both the culture and the structures within the federal government. Additionally, INMUJFERES delivers social-media related services and provides access to business services for women entrepreneurs. The institution’s Proequidad Program provides capacity building support to civil society organizations in projects to advance women in society. Between 2002 and 2013, Proequidad has provided funding to 383 organizations for 587 projects benefiting women and families from different Mexican states.”
